Dublin Fringe Festival New Resident Artists

Tá mé ar mhuin na muice leis an nuacht seo a fógraíodh inné!

In January, Tolü Makay and Ciara Ní É will be full-time residents in our Artists’ Office, with Hot Deskers Iseult Deane, Dagogo Hart, Dara Hoban and Ian Toner sharing the Workstation.

You can read all of the artist bios on the Dublin Fringe website here. I’ve been lucky enough to have seen work by / featuring all of these artists at some stage. Hoping and praying now that we get to make full use of the space and that 2022 will bring us opportunities to make ART! *ní ceadaítear smaointe faoin drochrud*

I’ll be sharing an office with the incredible Tolü Makay, whose music I’ve been following since I first heard her take on the Saw Doctors N17 on Arena last year.

I’ll leave you with this gem. Míle buíochas arís leis an Dublin Fringe Festival!

Canúint na nDéise

Canúint na nDéise is a beautiful dialect spoken in the Waterford region. I was delighted to get the chance to learn more about the dialect from Dr. Noel Ó Murchadha, Léachtóir le hOideachas Teanga i gColáiste na Tríonóide (Lecturer in Language Education in Trinity College Dublin).

Part 1 includes:

00:00 – Intro 01:15 – Who what or where is “Na Déise”

03:20 – An Rinn & An Seanphobal (and other areas historically included)

04:10 – Historical information…
Sliabh gCua, Pádraig Ó Maolaodha 1877 – 1947 https://www.ainm.ie/Bio.aspx?ID=534
Seamus Ó Maolchatha(igh) ‘An Gleann is a raibh ann’ https://www.ainm.ie/Bio.aspx?ID=761

05:40 – Ciara going down memory lane about her first visit to Gaeltacht na nDéise!

Cóisir Filíochta ar BBC Radio

Tá clár nua faoi fhilíocht na Gaeilge ar BBC Raidió Uladh:

Cóisir filíochta atá ann agus Seán ‘John Boy’ Ó Muireagáin ina fhear an tí. Cluinimid dánta ó bhéal le Ciara Ní É, Louis de Paor agus Laoighseach Ní Choistealbha, agus faigheann muid léargas ar na dánta sin ó bheirt aíonna ar filí iad féin iad: Caitlín Nic Íomhair agus Aimée Ní Chonaing.

Host Seán ‘John Boy’ Ó Muireagáin platforms Irish-language poetry of the 21st century, with a particular emphasis on new voices. We hear poems from Ciara Ní É, Louis de Paor and Laoighseach Ní Choistealbha, and discussion from two guests who are poets themselves: Caitlín Nic Íomhair and Aimée Ní Chonaing.

Táim ag baint an-sult as an sraith spéisialta seo a thosaigh an tseachtain seo caite. Filí ag léamh a ndánta féin agus ansin daoine eirmiúla á bplé? Céard eile a bheadh uait?! Agus mar bharr smaise chuir sé gliondar ar mo chroí go raibh dán liomsa á phlé ar chlár na seachtaine seo. Is féidir teacht ar na cláir ar fad go dtí seo anseo.

Seo blaiseadh beag ó na meáin shóisialta ón tseachtain seo caite – dán cumhachtach le Sam Ó Fearraigh.
